Bio/Information

I'm Deborah, I am a single mom of two awesome children. One girl and one boy. They keep me busy and on my toes. I have been fortunate enough to put myself through school full time all while working part time and being a full time single parent. I currently work at Southern Utah University in the psychology department, while finishing up my bachelors degree. I love doing what I do for SUU. I enjoy being outdoors in the sunshine and love sunsets. I like to volunteer for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, even though I am not a dedicated hunter.

Project Overview

I am volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. This will be my twelfth year volunteering.   My tasks so far this year have been: Meeting with and booking the date for the cedar City banquet. Ordering merchandise from the yearly catalog, discussing new programs with the regional director, meeting with the regional director, shopping for prizes, new computer programming training and helping with the Richfield, Utah banquet, discussing banquet logistics in meetings. I still have much  to do this year such as, setting up other banquets throughout the state, along with selling tickets for the dinner and collecting donations of items to be raffled at the banquets. I am apart of the final check to make sure things are in order a day before the banquet. It is rewarding to put in the time and working with the other volunteers throughout the state.

Reflection

I’m always excited when it comes to this time of year. It is very stressful with being in school and volunteering my time for such big banquets while taking care of my two children. My children also enjoy being apart of this wonderful foundation. I love the people I get to work with, we always have a great time. I also enjoy seeing a community coming together to support the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. It is very rewarding to see people come together and enjoy a night out and help conserve wildlife. The money that is raised in Utah gets to stay in Utah, projects are put together through out the state. That is always fun to hear about and even participate in.
